Microsoft Edge’s Automatic Profile Switching has been available to users since Edge v83 release. For now, this feature is limited to Windows 10 users. But it won’t stay that way for long. According to an official roadmap entry spotted by Techtsp, Microsoft Edge’s Automatic Profile Switching will soon be compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 computers starting Edge v86.
Edge's Automatic Profile Switching coming soon to older Windows operating systems
Microsoft Edge’s automatic profile switching for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 is currently in the works, Microsoft's roadmap reveals. The feature will first become available in Edge 86 Beta this month (August 2020).
In April 2020, Microsoft announced Automatic Profile Switching to help users get to their work content more easily while using multiple profiles. It allows multiple profiles users to navigate to a work-related website already authenticated with their work or school account while in their personal profile.
Let’s say you are in your personal profile and you have to quickly check your work email authenticated with your work account in Edge. In such a case, Edge prompts users to switch to your work profile to access that site without having to authenticate to it.
All you need to do is choose the work profile you want to switch to and the work-related website in question will seamlessly open in your work profile without any manual intervention.
